Tahitian Weddings at Vahine Island

A wedding on Vahine Island is something exclusive that involves the whole island and resort. Decorations, the entire staff and all guests are all part of this special moment that is yours. Vahine is a unique place, a part of the true heart of Polynesia and very different from what you find in bigger islands or hotels. The whole island is yours. In addition to the well-known, symbolic Tahitian wedding, a new law has been passed. Foreigners without residency in French Polynesia will be allowed to get married here as soon as the government applies the law and confirms the necessary papers. Weddings can be performed from mid October to June 30th
Tahitian Wedding Ceremony at Vahine Island
Proud of their traditions, Polynesian people offer to visitors many of their ancestors’ customs, modernized but still alive (tattoos, dances & legendary songs). Among these, the Polynesian wedding attracts more and more foreigners from all around the world. The actor Dustin Hoffmann, for example, made a dream come true here in Tahiti in 1995.
A Tahitian ceremony is always enchanting, to exchange vows, celebrate an anniversary or promise yourself to your loved one. It is always a vivid memory thanks to the gorgeous white sand beaches, the colours of the lagoon, the swaying palms, floral decorations, rhythmic musicians and the natural smile of Polynesian people. It is also a nice way to discover the population and its way of living.

The Tahitian wedding at Vahine Island is a local ceremony, conducted by a Tahitian priest and very respectful of the ancestor’s commitments from the Maohi people. It starts with the arrival of the groom and the bride in outriggers (they are supposed to row, but can be accompanied of rowers). A wedding certificate will be delivered on a “Tapa” made of breadfruit skin.

The Polynesian government voted a law last April to authorize foreign citizens to get married legally in Polynesia without residency. We just wait for more information…
