The proximity of 3 of New Zealand’s 9 Great Walks places Te Anau firmly on the map as ‘The Walking Capital of the World’. Fiordland is home to The Milford Track, Kepler Track and Routeburn Track. Local cafés and restaurants provide a variety of dining options, from fish and chips to fine dining, and the opportunity to sample local Fiordland fare of venison, lobster and other seafood. Te Anau offers seven day a week shopping facilities with competitively priced goods, including high quality apparel, gift and souvenir shops.


Milford Track Guided Day Walk

A guided day excursion including a walk on the first section of the world famous Milford Track.  The Milford Track is renowned for its dramatic alpine scenery, clear rivers and ancient beech forest.  The day walk explores the first section of this classic track as far as the Clinton Hut.  Begin with a short coach transfer from Te Anau to Te Anau Downs before boarding a catamaran for a one hour lake cruise to the head of Lake Te Anau and the start of the Milford Track.  From Glade Wharf, the track follows the Clinton River to Glade House for lunch.  A specialist nature guide leads a 4-5 hour leisurely walk on a gentle gradient (11 kms return) through forest, grassy flats and wet  lands with a maximum of 12 walkers per guide.  There is comprehensive commentary by the nature guide pointing out native birds and plants and detailing the region’s history.  Following the guided walk, return by catamaran and then coach to Te Anau.  Not recommended for children under 10 years.   A picnic lunch is included (consisting of homemade sandwich, hot soup, bread, fruit, biscuits and fruit juice).  Complimentary tea and coffee is also provided.  What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes/boots, waterproof jacket, warm clothing, daypack, sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, insect repellent, snacks, drinks, and your camera.
