Famous for being a magnet for creative people, there are more than 350 working artists and craftspeople living in Nelson, traditional, contemporary and Maori. Visit their studios and find a unique piece to take home with you or walk the sands of Golden Bay or head inland to Takaka and see the impossibly clear waters of New Zealand’s largest freshwater springs. Walk the Abel Tasman track – it’s a three to five day walk – or, for a different view, take a sea kayaking tour around the coast and see a seal colony and little blue penguins bobbing in the water.

Kayak, Seals and Walk

Beginning with our ‘Split Apple Paddle’ Guided 1 day kayak trip, explore the spectacular Kaiteriteri coastline. Stop on a golden-sand beach for a short break. Return to Kaiteriteri by 12 noon, time for lunch on the beach or a nearby cafe. Swapping kayak for walking shoes, join our 1:00pm Vista Cruise to the golden sands of Onetahuti, visiting the fascinating seal colony at Tonga Island on the way.  Arrive Tonga Quarry 2.30pm, disembark and walk the coastal track 2 hours to Medlands Beach.  Rejoin the Vista Cruise 4.45pm to cruise back to Kaiteriteri, arriving 5.45pm.
