At 6.30am join your coach to commence a full day tour to Kakadu National Park. Depart Darwin and travel east into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, with a breakfast stop enroute (own expense). Covering some 20,000 square kilometres, Kakadu is Australia’s largest national park. Its vast wetlands and ancient escarpment are home to one of Australia’s largest and most diverse bird populations and carry outstanding natural and cultural significance. Visit rock art sites at Nourlangie Rock – the name ‘Nourlangie’ is an anglicised version of Nawurlandja. The most famous rock art picture at Nourlangie is called Namondjok and for some Aboriginal groups he is a Creation Ancestor who now lives in the sky and can be seen only at night, when he appears as a dark spot in the Milky Way galaxy. Enjoy lunch at Cooinda before boarding the Yellow Water billabong cruise to view the myriad of birdlife and keep an eye out for crocodiles. Late in the afternoon reboard your coach and commence the return journey to Darwin with a visit along the way to Warradjan Aboriginal Culture Centre where the traditional Aboriginal land owners (Bininj) of Kakadu National Park tell stories of their culture through the displays and exhibitions. Travel south from Darwin and ascend the rocky Tabletop Range where dry woodlands and forests dominate the huge sandstone plateau. Stop to view giant magnetic termite mounds, some standing well over two metres tall. See the picturesque double waterfall forming Florence falls, surrounded by rainforest. Continue to Tolmer Falls, noted as one of the most spectacular in the park, cascading over two high escarpments and plunging into a deep waterhole below. Stop for a picnic lunch before continuing to the rock pool at Wangi Falls where time is available for a refreshing swim (conditions permitting) in the crystal waters or perhaps take a nature walk to the top of the falls. Continue to Leliyn (Edith Falls), where this is time for a refreshing swim in the paperbark and pandanas fringed waterhole beneath the falls (conditions permitting). Continue to Katherine, where lunch is enjoyed before boarding a 2 hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Cruise between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge and enjoy a guided commentary detailing the areas plant and wildlife. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and the splendid array of birdlife (between May and September, lunch may be on board the cruise). The cruise of the first two gorges takes you past sheer rock walls and requires a short walk to reach the second gorge. With special permission from the Manilakarr people, travel to the rarely visited Mikinj Valley and visit places inaccessible to most, including ancient rock art sites. Gain knowledge of traditional land ownership, bush skills, hunting, food gathering and bush tucker preparation. Enjoy lunch in a bush setting. Meet Aboriginal artists at Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre in Oenpelli, and also view Aboriginal art in its natural state where you will experience the region’s world famous landscapes consisting of sandstone outcrops, escarpments, forests, floodplains and billabongs. Overnight accommodation at Aurora Kakadu in a Standard Room. (L)  Travel by 4WD to Ubirr to explore the galleries of ancient Aboriginal artwork. After lunch, join the Guluyambi cultural cruise along the East Alligator River with an Aboriginal guide. With special permission from the local custodians, disembark on the Arnhem Land side of the river for a short walk into Arnhem Land.
