Sample Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Auckland and take delivery of your car. We recommend a visit to the fascinating Kelly Tarlton's Encounter and Underwater World. Day 2 Today spend the day exploring Auckland and the surrounding region. Maybe take a tour out on the Harbour on one of the America's Cup yachts. Day 3 Today depart for the Bay of Islands. You begin by crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge and travel north to the Bay of Islands. Once you arrive in Paihia you may wish to visit the Treaty of Waitangi grounds. These grounds hold a special place in New Zealand's young history. Day 4 This morning we suggest a cruise out into the bay to Cape Brett. Weather permitting your cruise may stop by the famous 'hole in the rock' which presents some wonderful photo opportunities.
Day 5 Today meander back to Auckland taking in some of the beautiful scenery on route. If you don't wish to stay in Auckland there are many smaller areas outside of the city that may take your interest. Day 6 After the short stop en route, continue on your journey to Rotorua via Waitomo or Ruakuri Caves. These limestone caves provide an amazing sight. You can take a guided tour of the Glowworm Grotto and there is even a place to stop for lunch. Day 7 Now that you are in Rotorua, you may notice the strong scent of sulphur. Rotorua is New Zealand's geothermal center and there is plenty to be seen. This morning begin your day with a tour of Rotorua, take in a hillarious sheep show and finish with a ride up the gondola for lunch. For those with a side that enjoys thrills and hopefully not to many spills, you can ride the luge down from the gondola stop. This evening enjoy a Maori Cultural show and Hangi (traditional feast) with the award winning Tamaki Tours.
Day 8 Today take the short trip through to Taupo. Taupo is home to Lake Taupo where arguably you can find the best trout fishing in the world. Taupo is also home to areas such as Craters of the Moon, Aratiatia Rapids and Huka Falls. Day 9 Enjoy a day exploring some of the many outdoors activities available in Taupo. Day 10 As your vacation is drawing to a close it is time to head back towards Auckland. Today take your time as you head back North to the City of Sails. Day 11 As you wind up your vacation today you may wish to explore Auckland City once more. Take in the view from the Sky Tower, or pick up some last minute gifts at the markets. This afternoon head to the airport to return your vehicle and catch your flight home.
