Travaasa Hana

Opened in 1947, this 66-acre coastal resort was fully renovated in 2002. Isolated on the eastern side of Maui’s Haleakala mountain, it’s accessed by a 3-hour drive on a winding, two-lane coast highway, with one-lane bridges over waterfalls. The hotel is set in a working ranch, and horses graze on a bluff overlooking Hana Bay. Celebrating couples, eco-adventurers, and vacationing businesspeople come for Hawaiian history, culture, and entertainment, and the many on-site recreational and spa services.
Long considered one of the most remarkable resorts in Hawaii, Travaasa Hana (formerly known as Hotel Hana Maui) is now even better. In fact, it was voted the “No. 1 Resort in Hawaii” in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards, and The Spa at Travaasa Hana was recently voted the “No. 1 Resort Spa in Hawaii” in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2012 Reader’s Choice Awards.
Located in the town of Hana on the eastern tip of Maui, Travaasa Hana is the first resort on the island to greet the rising sun. Set amid rolling grass fields and palm trees above Kaihalulu Bay, Travaasa Hana will immerse you in the real Hawaii: culinary classes on regional cuisine, locally inspired spa treatments, Hawaiian throw-net fishing with a local guide, and so much more.
For guests looking to dive into the entire experience, check out our Sea Ranch Cottages, which take in expansive views of the Pacific Ocean as well as all-inclusive packages to enjoy our unique offerings. Our Garden View Suites are ideal for day-trippers, and will give you a sampling of our signature services on an à la carte plan

Tranquil green hillside grounds, fairly large rooms, and a good staff make this a gem. Special touches are available like in-room massages, private spas in some of the rooms (for extra) and a concerted effort not to nickel and dime you. Free local calls, free room safes, free fitness room, free laundry facilities, free items from the in-room fridge and free valet parking (though you don’t need it) and use of some of the day spa facilities (treatments are extra). They have a 3-hole putting green and have free bikes for use. They offer a lu‘au show with buffet and special chef-inspired dinner buffets with wine pairing on some nights. Every guest gets a welcome basket of fresh fruits and banana bread, and champagne is added for honeymooners.
The Hotel Hana Maui features 66 guestrooms, all of which have one king bed or two queen beds with down mattress pads and 300-thread-count organic-cotton sheets. Ceiling fans, screened sliding doors to lanais, and opening windows with adjustable shutters for privacy allow each room to be cooled by ocean breezes. Colorful comforters and curtains are adorned with traditional 18th- and 19th-century kapa (Hawaiian bark art) patterns. Hardwood floors are covered with woven pandanus mats. Suites one and two bedroom cottages.
