NAI’A has set new standards of live-aboard diving luxury in every way, especially in comfort and service. Designed by renowned marine architect, W. de Vries Lentsch, and built by skilled Dutch craftsmen, NAI’A was completely refitted in 2010 with the latest technology and facilities specific to the needs discerning dive travelers. This extremely spacious ship provides for 18 guests (maximum) with all the creature comforts of a quality land-based resort – including hot showers and cool staterooms – but with superior diving and a new view every day! NAI’A’s sophisticated sailing rig affords her the range, comfort and stability of a true expeditionary vessel. Her large, diver-savvy Fijian crew is world-famous for their dedicated service, kava-inspired music and can-do attitude that makes for great flexibility as well as a great time!
Nitrox Diving- NAI’A offers Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) to divers who are certified and fit to use Nitrox by any reputable training agency such as PADI, ANDI, PADI or NAUI. They use a sophisticated high-capacity membrane system to achieve the standard 32% (NNI) mix. The NAI’A system and its operators are also capable of providing specific mixes between 21%-100% by special request for recreational or re-breather diving. NAI’A has Nitrox diving computers available for rental use or for sale on board. You can become certified as a PADI Nitrox Diver during your NAI’A cruise.
The most commonly cited advantage by Nitrox users is that they feel less fatigued and suffer from fewer headaches over repetitive dives on multi-day dive trips. That is, Nitrox divers often feel like diving more!
Skiff Diving – The Quick & Easy Way to Dive- Many people diving in the Pacific for the first time seem apprehensive about skiff diving. By the end of the charter, those same people realize that well orchestrated skiff diving is the only civilized way to dive.
Enjoy the freedom of not having to get back to where you started. NAI’A’s skiffs will pick you up wherever you surface. Divers accustomed to the 40-40-20 rule (swim out for 40% of your air; swim back for 40%; and hope the last 20% covers your navigation mistakes or the current you didn’t account for going out….) will be delighted by the extended dive time, photographic opportunities, and room to maneuver that the skiffs allow. Skiff diving is safer, too, since you never have to stress yourself getting back to where you started.
Rebreather Diving – Many divers have gotten hooked on re-breathers…silent, bubble free and allowing you to swim so close to the fish that you have to push them out of the way! NAI’A offers support for keen tech divers who would like to bring their own units.
A re-breather takes your exhaled breath, retains it in a loop, filters it, refreshes it and delivers it back to you for you to breathe again. This system provides a massive gains in air consumption. Another major advantage of re-breathers – decompression efficiency – stems from these devices’ ability to deliver the optimum gas mixture for a given depth. Fully-closed re-breather systems (e.g. Evolution) are often computer controlled and can actually change the gas mixture based on depth and the nature of the dive.
These characteristics allow re-breather divers to dramatically extend their bottom time or to shorten decompression obligations when engaged in extended range diving. Also, in contrast to traditional scuba systems, which emit noisy streams of bubbles with each breath, re-breathers offer the advantage of quiet operation, making it great for getting up close and personal to all that amazing fish life down there.
NAI’A is re-breather friendly! The hard part about traveling with a re-breather is carrying the heavy cylinders and scrubber. Unfortunately NAI’A no longer supplies the scrubber since it has a short shelf life but they do have cylinders for rent!
Designed for Discerning Divers – NAI’A’s impressive layout, custom built for live-aboard diving, sports accommodations for 18 passengers in 9 spacious, air-conditioned staterooms with private ensuite heads.
While the main salon above decks is perhaps her most eye-catching feature, with the golden grains of native Fijian hardwoods, the serious diver will appreciate the thoughtful lay-out of her roomy dive deck, complete with a dedicated dry camera and video room to suit the most discriminating photographers.
Delicious and beautifully prepared meals of locally grown produce and meats and fresh fish await the hungry diver with a widely varied parade of delights served from the galley of our chefs. Truly the core of the NAI’A family is her Fijian crew, ten of the friendliest and most able sailors anywhere. Book a charter with us and you will agree; NAI’A stands head and shoulders above the rest.
NAI’A’s MAIN SALON – Carefully crafted out of local timbers, the 625 square foot room serves as lounge, theater, classroom, and dining room. The four tables in the salon are showpiece items, built as a gift to NAI’A by the Fijian carpenters who refinished the ship. Made of alternating planks of the four native timbers used elsewhere throughout the ship, the tables are polished to a high sheen.
When you come back from the dive you can review your videos immediately using the entertainment system located in the salon. Two multi-system DVD players are wired to the Sony High Definition television and there are extra jacks with which to plug in your own camera.
The salon is also a comfortable place to just sit and relax, read a book or take a nap. We have an extensive library of interesting books, magazines, games and puzzles available for your use while onboard.
