At Admirals Arch see where the powerful forces of nature have cut through the headland to create this natural geological formation. Admire Cape du Couedic Lighthouse established in 1909, in the far south-west corner of the park. Enjoy a picnic lunch in a secluded bush setting. By special permit, enter the Kelly Hill Conservation Park to see kangaroos and other native wildlife emerge from the safety of the bushland to graze on the open plains. Here explore Hahndorf, a traditional German town and Mt Lofty Summit with sweeping views of Adelaide. Journey through grain and stock lands towards the town of Keith for lunch (own expense), then turn south towards wine country. Travel through the relatively new wine region of Padthaway towards the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves to learn of the fossil discoveries of Mega Fauna that make this site so internationally important. End the day by travelling into the scenic Coonawarra wine region recognised as one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon regions of the world, to your accommodation. Dinner is included this evening. Day 2: After breakfast travel toward the Shipwreck coast. First stop is at Mt Gambier with a visit to the ‘blue’ crater lake, Port Fairy then Tower Hill Reserve with the chance to see emus, koalas, kangaroos and echidnas. This reserve is a wildlife haven and the home of an Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Enjoy lunch (own expense) before visiting London Bridge and the less visited but equally impressive limestone stacks of the Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands. Visit ‘Loch Ard Gorge’, the site of the most famous 19th century Australian shipwreck. Discover one of Australia’s icons, the Twelve Apostles where the creation of these limestone stacks and the constant wearing away of this coastline will be explained. Day 3: Begin with breakfast at the ‘locals favourite’ Bay Leaf Café. First stop is within the Otway National Park at Maits Rest. This is a 1km walk through a cool temperate rainforest gully discovering trees and ferns that date back millions of years to times when dinosaurs roamed this part of the world. Turn towards Melbourne and travel along a very scenic section of the Great Ocean Road enroute to Kennett River for a fantastic viewing of wild koalas in their native setting. Along the way visit many scenic spots for photos and hear numerous stories behind the making of the road. Lunch is at the largest of the seaside villages, Lorne (own expense). This popular tourist town is full of restaurants and cafés and boasts great shopping and swimming beaches.
