Day 1:
A Wayoutback Tropical Safaris vehicle will pick you up from your hotel to commence a three day Buffalo Dreaming Top End Safari tour. Begin by travelling to the Mary River Wetlands. This region is home to over 250 bird species and has the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the Southern Hemisphere. Search for ‘crocs’ and other wildlife as you cruise on Corroboree Billabong. Entrance to Kakadu National Park is at the South Alligator River, a picturesque location for a picnic lunch. After lunch, visit Bowali Visitor Centre where there is the opportunity to purchase Aboriginal arts and c rafts before a late afternoon arrival at Ubirr. Here view a wide range of ancient Aboriginal art, learn the story of the Rainbow Serpent and climb the Nadab Lookout for panoramic views over the floodplain and beyond into Arnhem Land. As the day draws to a close head to your overnight campsite at Cooinda. Enjoy dinner tonight. Overnight accommodation in permanent campsite at Cooinda. (L, D)
Day 2: Today journey towards the southern end of Kakadu where the whole morning is spent at Gunlom Falls (seasonal). There is a large plunge pool at the base of the waterfall to enjoy, however the climb to the top of the falls is a must! Relax in a natural infinity pool with a postcard backdrop of the Arnhem Land escarpment, take a dip in the sandy middle pool and swim under a waterfall in the rear pool. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this beautiful setting. After lunch and a final swim in the lower plunge pool, leave the national park and travel via Batchelor to overnight campsite near Litchfield National Park. Enjoy dinner tonight. Overnight accommodation in permanent campsite. (B, L, D)
Day 3: Today is spent exploring the waterfalls, spring-fed streams and rugged sandstone escarpments of Litchfield National Park. Marvel at the intriguing magnetic and cathedral termite mounds and swim, hike and explore Florence and Wangi Falls (seasonal). Enjoy a picnic lunch, then discover the many rock holes and cascading waterfalls of Buley Rockhole before a late afternoon arrival back in Darwin. Tour concludes at approximately 5.30pm, at which time hotel drop offs will commence. (B, L)
